The Cheer Hangover
The Cheer Hangover (Cheer-over) – It Is Real
According to Urban Dictionary, the source of the most accurate definitions on the web:
A condition the morning after a Cheer event (most usually a competition, but perhaps a big game) that presents symptoms typical in an alcohol related hangover. I.E. – headache, fatigue, achy-ness.
Holy crap, Nationals was so intense…I have such a cheer-over this morning.
Our completion season officially started yesterday. I had to get back into the swing of getting up early, driving forever, hoping to get to the venue on time, hoping nothing important was forgotten, hoping to have enough cash (why on earth are these events always cash-only? I mean really!!). Feeling nervous, anxious, hoping all teams hit, hoping nobody gets hurt…you know the story. Examining the schedule, noticing that it is way off, trying to figure out when I might be able to grab a nasty hot dog or something… up the stairs, down the stairs, up the stairs, down the stairs… endless loud music (thump thump thump ding ding thump thump thump), screaming and yelling, rushing to the viewing area, then rushing out of the viewing area…happy emotions, sad emotions. The adrenaline rush during the routine, the thrill of a perfect hit, the sorrow when stunts fall… yeah, all of that. Then the long drive home, with kids completely crashed out in the back seat… but I still had to do laundry once I get home, aargh!!! And throw a sick cat into the mix, and well, that’s a whole other story.
This can and does result in super sensory overload, and it is draining on both the mind and body.
So when I woke up bright and early (actually a bit late) for work this morning, it is no wonder my body ached, my brain was not functioning properly (who else would confuse shower soap for hair conditioner?), and struggled to get myself together. Oh, and getting my daughter up for school? Hahahaha!
Co-worker asks me something. I just look at her in a daze, because all I’m still hearing is thump thump thump ding ding.
So going back to Urban Dictionary’s definition of Cheer-over:
Headache – check.
Fatigue – check.
Achy-ness – check.
Yep, diagnosis complete. I’ve got a cheer-over. It is a real thing. But you know what? I’m somehow doing ok. Because, while coffee does help a bit, these smiling faces are what really do the trick!
